The Greek islands have been inspiring travellers since antiquity, and with good reason. There are more than 6,000 of them — 227 inhabited — scattered across the Aegean and Ionian seas. Each has its own character, its own light, its own rhythm. A week spent island-hopping here is a week spent in a genuinely different world.
Santorini is iconic: the blue-domed churches, the caldera views, the sunsets from Oia. It's also expensive and extremely crowded in summer. If you want the dramatic scenery without the crowds, consider Milos — jagged volcanic rock, sea caves, and lunar landscapes, with far fewer visitors.
